What is Arbonne’s 30 Days to Healthy Living Program

30 Days to Healthy Living from Arbonne is a program that lasts, you guessed it, 30 days! It is designed to eliminate non-nutritious foods and replace your food with highly nutritious, clean food, and supplements to restore a healthy gut and digestive system.

Gut flora has been linked with a number of diseases including chronic inflammation, type-2 diabetes, and even depression.

There are so many health benefits to focusing on your nutrition and health, including weight loss, greater focus through the day, no afternoon slump, energy to keep up with your kids, increased immune system, and feeling confident and good about your body.

Having a healthy body can even be linked to higher success.

I’m not going to tell you the nuts & bolts of the 30 days program. Basically, you will order a package through Arbonne that includes many of our clean, vegan nutrition products, including protein shake mix, fiber, detox tea, digestion plus (probiotics, probiotics, and digestive enzymes), greens balance or the cleanse, and energy fizz sticks.

You will also be given weekly grocery lists and approved snacks lists. This is for all of your meals not included with the products. They don’t include soy, wheat, dairy, sugar, or processed foods of any kind. If you follow the program strictly, you will be eating very clean.

Here’s a good video to watch if you’re interested in learning more about the program and what it looks like from day to day:

Low-carb flu

One more thing to consider about this program in general is that if you have been eating a lot of grains, sugar, dairy, and other toxic and carb-heavy products, your body might “reject” the clean food.

It is known as low-carb flu, and it’s a real thing when you take yourself off of a carb-heavy diet. You might get headaches, achy body, feel irritable, weak, light-headed, or exhausted.

It’s a normal reaction. It is worst the first few days and then will ease up. If it doesn’t ease up or you have symptoms that you feel aren’t related to low-carb flu, make sure to contact your doctor. Follow the considerations below to minimize the effects and get through low-carb flu fast.

Your Body While Breastfeeding

There are some major changes that happen in your body while lactating.

Milk Production

Breastfeeding/Nursing

First, your body takes about 6 weeks before it reaches the maximum milk production! It’s common to worry about losing milk around this time, but this is when your breasts are starting to level off.

I waited until after these 6 weeks before I started the program. If your milk has been established for even longer, go for it! I’m not your doctor, but I didn’t start this program until 6-8 weeks postpartum.

Detoxing

The foods you consume do get into the breastmilk. Typically, it’s not much, but there are some guidelines you may want to follow.

Calorie Intake

Last, when you’re chestfeeding, you use about 500-600 more calories a day! Which is amazing! Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that weight loss will be a breeze. It’s very important to eat regularly and not try to restrict calories too much so you don’t lose your milk.

Low-Carb Flu and Breastfeeding

Although I was already eating nutritious foods without empty carbs, I did experience a very minor low-carb flu during my 30 Days Program. I mostly felt light-headed. Remember, if you aren’t feeling good, it doesn’t mean that your baby feels the same way.

Feeling crappy or exhausted for a day or two shouldn’t affect your breastfeeding. Keep nursing and drink plenty of water to avoid clogged milk ducts or mastitis. If you have a breast lump or fever, please contact your doctor!

Arbonne’s 30 Days to Healthy Living while Nursing

I started Arbonne 30 Days to Healthy living while nursing, and I was about 7 or 8 weeks postpartum. In the week or two right after giving birth, I lost some of my baby weight, but my weight loss had kind of stalled.

My husband and I also decided that I would make the leap to become a SAHM, which is a little overwhelming. I wanted to make sure that I had enough energy every day to keep up with my toddler and take care of our new baby!

Thankfully, my husband is a teacher, so I had some help during the summer, but now that school is back in session, he’s going to be gone a lot more and he’ll probably be bringing home colds and other bugs, I wanted to make sure that my immune system is in good shape.

Meals & Snacks

I stuck to the recipes for dinner, leftovers for lunch, and approved snacks for snacking. It is recommended to eat every 4-6 hours while on the program, but I definitely ate about every 2-3 hours. I did not eat from about 6pm until 6am the next day.

Again, because chestfeeding requires extra calories, you don’t want to deprive yourself. If you feel hungry, eat!

(Try Arbonne Protein Balls!)

Following the 80/20 Rule

Most Arbonne Consultants recommend that you follow the program on an 80/20 rule (80% following the diet, 20% eat what you want).

This is especially important for chestfeeding people.
Following a strict diet actually is proven to not be effective in people who are nursing.

Arbonne Products to Use While Breastfeeding

Protein Shakes while Breastfeeding

The protein shakes are made primarily from pea protein, and they are absolutely delicious. Getting enough protein is one of the first steps to weight loss. They are sweetened using a combination of stevia and cane sugar to give a small blood sugar boost without the stress of high sugar.

The protein mix has 20 grams of protein, which is incredibly important for keeping you fuller longer. They also have a multivitamin blend including biotin and folate.

Sometimes I added fruit and almond butter and processed it in the blender to get extra calories when I was feeling especially hungry.

Fiber & Digestion Plus

I also added a half scoop of fiber and a digestion plus stick to my shakes in the morning. The fiber helps to keep you regular, and the digestion plus has a beneficial blend of probiotics, prebiotics, and digestive enzymes to help bring your gut flora into balance.

On “cheat” meals (or the 20% you’re not adhering to the 30DHL plan) I would have my daily digestion plus with my meal instead of in my shake. The digestive enzymes really helped to break down the carby foods and I wouldn’t get a belly ache!

To learn more about the Arbonne Digestion Plus, read this article.

Fizz Sticks while Chestfeeding

The fizz sticks are somewhat controversial during lactation. They do actually say that pregnant and lactating people should NOT take them.

There are two ingredients to consider: caffeine and taurine.

Caffeine has mostly been considered safe in moderate amounts for people who are chestfeeding. High amounts of caffeine can lead to undesirable symptoms in the infant.

Taurine is an amino acid that is actually added to formula. It is already abundant in breastmilk, but there are not enough studies to know how a mother’s/parent’s consumption of taurine affects the breastmilk.

So are Arbonne Fizz Sticks safe for breastfeeding?

My midwife told me that fizz sticks are okay to consume in moderation during lactation. It seems from other discussions online that many women’s doctors have said the same. I used them without side effects while nursing (13 months). Please consult with your doctor to determine if it’s okay for you.

Again, please consult with your doctor to determine if you are safe to drink them.

I only had a half to 1 full fizz stick in the morning with no additional caffeine.

Using the Fizz Sticks in this way, I never noticed any change in my baby’s mood, digestive habits, or disposition.

30 Days to Health Living Options

Greens Balance instead of the Cleanse

I also opted for the Greens Balance instead of the 7-day cleanse because it’s not really good to do any type of cleanse or detox during pregnancy or chestfeeding. That also made me feel good, knowing that I was getting plenty of vegetable nutrition that I was passing onto my baby!

I often put the greens balance into my shakes in the mornings as well, but I did not use the whole jar during the 30 days.

Detox Tea

You might be wondering, “Can I drink the Arbonne Detox Tea while Breastfeeding?”

Possibly, but it’s probably not a good idea. While I have not found any research to show contraindications of the Arbonne detox tea with nursing, there are many types of tea leaves in the detox tea that could cause hormonal imbalance and decrease your milk supply.

Additionally, anything that “detoxes” out of your system has the potential of coming out in your breastmilk. You don’t want your baby to be consuming any potential toxins.

If you really want to drink the Arbonne Detox tea while you’re breastfeeding, check with your doctor or lactation consultant to get the thumbs up from them first.

Although I did receive the detox tea, I did not use it. I didn’t start drinking it until I was done nursing. Again, detoxing is not good during nursing because those toxins that are coming out of your body could potentially go into your breastmilk and could be ingested by baby.

At the end of the 30 days, I had lost about 6.5 pounds! I think this was amazing! I’m fairly lean to begin with and I didn’t have tons of weight to lose. But losing weight slowly by eating healthy is the way to go. If you have more to lose, you might lose it quicker.

From Arbonne, you may want to consider the whole-food multivitamin (which contains folate), the omega 3s (essential for baby’s growth and development, especially the brain), and a protein shaker cup for your protein mix.

If you’re not looking to get anything else from Arbonne, you can look at these additional products on Amazon:

Is there a reason the Multivitamin & Mineral boost says “do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding” instead of just checking with doctor before taking? I’m currently breastfeeding my 3 month old.

Hey Kass, I used it while I was breastfeeding and I think that multivitamins are generally safe, but definitely check with your doctor to confirm. Here's an article I found helpful: https://aeroflowbreastpumps.com/blog/vitamins-and-minerals-that-are-essential-for-baby Hope this helps!
