What is Power?

Kasia Urbaniak defines power as “influence on others that exists beyond the level of language alone.”

In other words, inner-power will only get you so far, because power doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It happens as an exchange between two or more people. Every time you command someone’s attention, have heads turn your way, or express yourself in front of others, you are in a position of power.

Power is happening all the time! In every conversation, as one person talks and the other listens, and then they switch roles, power is flowing between them!

What’s the difference between control and power?

Many people in today’s world, like the current US president, Andrew Tate and other red pill influencers, and others, believe that power looks like control. It’s why you see men who insist that women should “stay in their god-given roles” of being a mother and wife—control. It’s why transphobic people think they are exerting “power” by taking rights away from trans people—control.

But this is false.

Control isn’t true power. It’s unstable, and it will fail as people rise up.

True power comes from our ability to influence others, to draw them in, to lead with integrity. The natural flow of power is more powerful (if you will) than control ever will be!

How do affirmations for power work?

When looking for affirmations to feel powerful, you want to focus on exactly that: the feeling.

These power affirmations are made to help you feel congruent with your power. It means that your power is a true and REAL expression of yourself. You’re not putting up a front to seem like you’re an authority figure. You’re not trying to control others.
