What is gratitude?

Gratitude, simply, is being thankful for what we have in our lives, both big and small. When we practice gratitude, we shift our focus from what is lacking, to all of the abundance that surrounds us. Gratitude is a key ingredient for creating a positive mindset, and it can lead to a more fulfilling life.

Help create that positive mindset with positive thinking affirmations.

Is unconditional gratitude toxic?

Let’s be clear, though: gratitude is not toxic positivity. It’s not putting on the blinders and refusing to confront the “bad stuff” and pretending it’s not there. Gratitude is more about being thankful for all the good things. Even when we’re going through bad stuff, we’re able to see the abundance that surrounds us.

For example, within the last couple months, my family has had roof issues, a broken swamp cooler, replaced our fridge, had several thousand dollars in car repairs, had a tree limb come down on a neighbor’s carport, and our water heater broke.

Yet, I could list hundreds of positive things that we have in our lives, including good jobs and income, health, wonderful friends and family in our life, food in our fridge, fun things to do over the summer, internet and TV, running water, a house that we’re able to invest in, and so much more.

Using Affirmations to Generate More Gratitude in Your Life

In addition to focusing on the good things in your life, affirmations are a powerful tool that you can use to increase gratitude. Affirmations are positive statements that affirm something about ourselves or our lives.

Affirmations are a wonderful way to see the abundance throughout your life because they help retrain our brains to focus on the positive. When we make affirmations part of our daily routine, it helps us to see all the good things in our lives, which leads to more gratitude.
